Original Copies of education certificates and Birth Certificates, certified by the Commissioner of Oaths, must accompany every application for enrolment. The minimum qualification is ‘FIVE’ subjects at GCE ‘O’ Level including ENGLISH AND MATHEMATICS with a “C” or better symbol, plus a minimum of any points at two ‘A’ Level subjects. The Institute may, at its discretion, in exceptional circumstances, approve an Application for enrolment from a candidate who has not fully satisfied the normal enrolment requirements set out.

Only students enrolled with Institute are permitted to write its examinations. All students are required to pay their annual subscriptions by not later than February 28 in each year. Application forms for enrolment or registration are obtained from the Institute offices in Harare. The appropriate enrolment and annual subscription fees must accompany the relevant Application. Enrolment or registration as a Student confers no grade of professional membership and no voting rights.

The Student may choose which subjects to study. There is no laid down procedure as to the order in which to sit exams, except Building Construction, Law, Town Planning and Valuation, where the exams must be taken in sequence. All relevant subjects must be passed, or exemption granted, before the candidate becomes eligible for membership. Maximum period for  passing all subjects is six years, otherwise the applicant must start again.

 

Course material for study of each subject is available at REIZ office for each subject, with exception of Bookkeeping and Finance.

The enrolment fee for students registering for first time is non refundable if registration is declined. In addition, there is an annual subscription payable by students for Student Membership of the Institute. Examination entry fees are charged per subject.

 

Examinations entry forms, together with appropriate fees, must be submitted to the Institute before the end of February and August each year. No Student shall be permitted to write any examinations unless he has purchased and fully paid for the relevant correspondence course for the subject. Those Students who fail a subject at the first attempt will be required to pay for rewriting in addition to the examination fee. Employers financing costs of the course undertaken by their own employees may,under certain conditions, claim rebates from ZIMDEF, as the course is recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education for this purpose.

Exemptions maybe granted on a subject-by-subject basis to holders of relevant educational qualification, copies of which should be certified by the Commissioner of Oaths or the Registrar of the Estate Agents Council. An exemption fee will be charged per subject, and is not refundable if the exemption is declined.

 

There will be two sets of examinations, in April or October. Even before the results are known students should start studying for the next set of examinations. Students will only be permitted to write three examinations at each session, six a year.

Examination fees are not normally refundable, but consideration will be given to applicants for postponement to the examination on medical grounds only.

  1. A certificate from a doctor is required, stating nature and duration of the illness. A covering letter and doctor’s certificate must reach the Institute offices not later than the end of the month in which the examination is held.
  2.  Confirmation of postponement will not be accepted by telephone or telegram.
  3. In all other cases the examination fees will be forfeited if the candidate is not in attendance to sit the examination at the time, date and venue advised.

Examination results will be communicated to each candidate by post and will not be given over the phone or telegram. Every effort is made to ensure that the results are available by the end of June and December each year.

 

Candidates cannot be informed of the number of marks they have obtained, but in the event of failure they will be given a symbol to indicate the approximate standard of their attempt.

 

The Examiners decision is final. Request for remarking of a candidate’s script will not be considered.

 

Letters will be issued to successful candidates for all parts of the examination. All finalists will be receiving a letter from the Institute confirming that they have completed the examinations and listing the subjects.
